Salad, anyone?

20120930-190152.jpgLooking for a healthy lunch?

I love making salads for lunch because there are so many different things to add to them and you can make them different each time! Today I made my salad with apple pieces and walnuts with a ginger dressing. Typically I like to add craisins and feta cheese with this one, but we were out of those two ingredients. Either way, it was delicious.
To add protein to your salad: grilled chicken, turkey slices, and eggs are all great options. I had chicken noodle soup with my salad, so I decided not to add anything else to it! Look below to see what i use to make for all my salads, hopefully it gives you some extra ideas if you wanna make your salads more fun!

Ingredients for all my salad bases:

  • baby spinach
  • ice berg lettuce
  • carrots
  • peppers
  • cucumbers
  • celery

Extra additions:

  • pears, apples, mandarine oranges, grapes
  • feta cheese, goat cheese, parmasan cheese
  • dried fruit
  • nuts (all sorts)– pistachios, walnuts, sunflower seeds, cashews, almonds
  • protein! (eggs, chicken, turkey)

Dressing choices:

  • Yogurt based dressings (bolthouse farms!!)
  • Balsamic Dressing
  • Light Dressings

Salads are perfect to get your vitamins, and the additions you can add will greatly benefit your health–protein, healthy oils, fruit, veggies and calcium– as long as you don’t add too much dressing. Often times I like to have my dressing on the side just so i can dip my fork in there!
