BURRRRR, I’m still trying to warm up from the bitter cold in Bloomington as I sit
here with my hot cocoa! (loving the 25 calorie light hot chocolate mix I picked up!) It’s been so cold the past couple of weeks here, I struggle walking outside more than just 5-10 minutes on campus. I now understand why people say it’s hard for them to make it to the gym in the winter, I wanted to stay cuddled up this morning instead of going to lift.
It’s almost the end of the second week being back at school for Spring semester, and I wish I could say it’s been great—but, it’s actually been pretty hard for me. I really miss being home and enjoying family time & my cozy home. My workouts haven’t been that great. I got so used to my home gym again because I was there for almost four weeks— greeting the 10AM regulars, smiling to familiar faces, knowing when the best times to use the squat rack or benches were, and even embracing the New Years Resolution-ers crowd.
While it’s not been sunshines & rainbows day in and day out the past two weeks, I know I am extremely fortunate and have great support from my amazing parents, friends and boyfriend. My boyfriend said something that resonated with me when I was having a tough day, “Everything is temporary and you have the rest of your life ahead of you.” How true is that? I’ve been trying to remember that when I’m not feeling my best because everything really does go by quick, it is temporary and college is just one chapter in my life. School hasn’t ever come easy to me because it’s a lot of work for me to get good grades (I blame a poor memory!!), but I’m so lucky that my parents gave me the opportunity to go to a great school and receive an education that many don’t have the chance to get.
I’m also so fortunate to have an incredible job here in Bloomington as a Group Exercise Leader! This semester I’m teaching a Total Body Conditioning class and it’s been a blast. It’s such a rewarding feeling when you hear positive feedback from participants and get to befriend them as well! If you haven’t gone to a group exercise class, seriously try one out! There are tons of different formats and it’s a very motivating atmosphere to be in with others!
And lastly, I’ve been working on relaxing more…starting out with taking more baths! I struggle with relaxing and sitting still/watching tv because I always think that I should be doing something- but my goal is to read more, cook more fun recipes, color (yes I’m a 5 year old at heart), take more baths & pamper myself more (wearing make up/massages/nails/girl stuff lol). Some days when I’m not feeling great, I don’t feel like working out. It’s strange because most people like working out when they have bad days or stress…but my favorite time to work out is when I’m in a cheery mood!
Maybe it could be all the cold weather getting to me
lately, but I want to leave you with this…If you’re ever feeling down or under the weather, remember to think how lucky you are and how that feeling won’t last forever. Everything is temporary, do your best to stay positive and look on the bright side. I promise you that there is something worse happening to someone else out there and everything is going to be okay!
Be sure to find time for yourself to do the things you enjoy. I know life can be busy, but even if its just ten minutes a day, schedule it in and make it happen! Life is so precious, you only have one life, and you deserve to be happy!
