Yogurt is such a great snack/desert/meal choice! Not only does it taste awesome, there are so many benefits you can receive from eating it. I believe you will get the most “bang for your buck” if you eat Greek Yogurt. I never used to be a fan, but now I love it!
Greek Yogurt fills me up so much more than the average yogurt, and now my favorite brand: Light ‘n Fit, even carries various Greek flavors.
What are the benefits of yogurt?
- Greek yogurt is loaded with protein. An eight oz cup has as much protein as a 3 oz chicken cutlet.
- Greek yogurt is a tasty source of calcium, key to bone and teeth health, as well as heart and nerve function.
- Yogurt is good for your gut, the probiotics in yogurt not only improve your digestive health and keep bacteria in your guy healthy, they also boost your immune system and keep you well.
- Yogurt is an abs-friendly food, according to many studies, eating yogurt is seen to help people lose weight and fat around your waist. The calcium from yogurt signals your fat cells to produce less cortisol- a hormone that tells the body to accumulate more belly fat.
- Yogurt may reduce the risk of high blood pressure because the potassium in yogurt helps the body get rid of excess sodium.
There are so many ways to incorporate this healthy food in your diet. You can use it in smoothies, oatmeal, baked goods and make awesome yogurt parfaits out of them! I often think of it as a treat instead of something healthy because it tastes so good 🙂
My favorite guilty pleasure is frozen yogurt! It’s not necessarily unhealthy, unless you go to yogurt shops that allow you to pile on whatever you want. in that case, you could make some really bad decisions, and you may have been better off with ice cream!
Here are some things you may not know about this delicious treat: frozen yogurt is low in fat, it has only 4% fat when made from whole milk and no fat when made from skim milk. Ice cream contains a minimum of 10% fat. While frozen yogurt has less protein and calcium than regular yogurt, it contains an equivalent amount of carbs. The carbs in frozen yogurt makes a tasty carb-loading or post-workout snack. I’ve even seen some yogurt shops have frozen Greek yogurt! How awesome is that? Have an awesome day 😉

Great post. I switched to greek yogurt last year and have never looked back. It is so versatile and yummy. I can use it in shakes, mix it with fruit, and (my new favorite) is using plain greek yogurt as sour cream for hispanic-inspired dishes. (:
I love it in shakes and I use it all the time when I bake, it’s definitely a great ingredient to use when cutting back on butter and fat 🙂
I love Greek yoghurt so darn much, I go through tubs of it
haha it’s really good! what’s you favorite kind/brand? have an awesome day!

Yummm it’s been a month and a half since my last dairy and I can’t believe how much I miss my afternoon Greek yogurt with passion fruit on top 🙁 great facts on a lovely topic!
oh my goodness- i could not go without my frozen yogurt or homemade yogurt parfaits! Hopefully you’ve found something good to replace it, maybe a yummy type of protein shake?? thank you for stopping by, I hope you have an awesome day! 🙂
Thanks. I had no idea about the protein and extra bacterial content of Greek Yoghurt. I will definitely buy Greek next time!
Yes! The protein in greek yogurt makes the treat more filling and has a thicker texture! I hope you like it. Often times people may not like it, it’s definitely an acquired taste, but adding a little honey or fruit makes it 10x better 🙂 I reccommend trying the light n fit one if you are new to it, it’s definitely a favorite because it’s low in calories yet sweet and creamy!
Being half Greek I’m very proud of our yogurt!!
haha, yes, it’s so beneficial for our bodies! and delicious 😉
Just with honey it’s also amazing!
agreed! what’s your favorite brand?
I’ve tried Greek yoghourt at Cyprus (and like it so much) but living in Dubai, and here it’s totally different and not thick.. 🙂
Another fan of greek yogurt!! It’s super good for me, specially with chocolate granola!! 😀
